Dysprosium oxide, min 99%, FOB, China, $/kg, Bulk

International prices for dysprosium have been relatively stable between $630-890/kg since November 2012. January data from China Customs showed a slight increase in domestic dysprosium values, with further gains expected later this year.

Graphite, Flake, 94-97% C, +80 mesh, FCL, CIF Europe port, $/tonne

Flake graphite (94-97% C, +80 mesh) prices have shown few signs of moving out of the $1,400-1,800/tonne range since October 2012, although reports from some European sources suggested that this bracket tightened slightly as the market approached April.

Iodine crystal, 99.5% min, drums, contract $/kg

Iodine prices saw upward pressure in March, rising from a a range of $56-65/kg to around $59-65/kg for both spot and contract orders. Market contacts attributed this increase to a resumption of buying activity in China following the Spring Festival.

Iron oxide, red type 130 90% Fe2O3, bagged, FOB China, $/tonne

Iron oxide prices have remained steady since the end of 2011. China is the largest end user of iron oxide pigments, and despite recent market weakness caused by the financial crisis, companies are continuing to expand production there.

Potash muriate, KCl, standard, bulk, FOB Baltic $/tonne

Potash prices have remained stable at high levels so far this year. Both Vale and SQM reported weakening fertiliser prices in their FY 2012 results, but indicated slight rises in potash values.

Rutile, concentrate, min. 95% TiO2, bagged, FOB Australia, $/tonne

Rutile prices stayed firm in March after falling at the beginning of the year, although three of the world’s five major producers have announced their intention to increase prices from 1 April 2013.
