RIKEN to develop lithium-iodine battery; Hi-Crush sees strong proppants prospects
On this weeks programme we report on how leading
refractories producer RHI is poised to acquire the right to
mine a mothballed magnesite operation in
Turkey.
The world of batteries sees a team of Chinese and Korean
researchers at Japans RIKEN centre develop a lithium-iodine battery
system that has double the energy density of conventional
lithium-ion batteries.
In the US proppant manufacturer Hi-Crush
Partners reports an increase in net income and revenue for the
second quarter of 2013 as it continues to thrive on a buoyant
unconventional oil and gas market.
And finally, Japans major producer of chloride-route
titanium
dioxide pigment, Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, has elected to
close its Singapore plant. The plant has a capacity of 54,000
tpa of TiO2 pigment and was first opened in February
1989.
