Opta Minerals records losses in 2013

Significance: Opta Minerals, a major processing company of several industrial minerals such as chromite sand, garnet, alumina, bentonite and silica sand, saw its profits falling last year, due to a low global demand in its steel and magnesium segment.

US-based industrial minerals and steel/magnesium vertically integrated producer, Opta Minerals, has recorded lower profits in the fourth quarter and net loss in full year (FY) 2013.

Profit in Q4 2013 amounted to $962,000, down 2.9% compared to the same period in 2012, and revenues amounted to $32.8m, down by 3.8%...
