Cold weather affects Elementis' hectorite sales in Q1

Elementis is the world's only hectorite producer — a mineral which has attracted attention due to its use in oilfield applications. However, lagging sales in this market, down 18% year on year, has been attributed to cold weather, which has delayed many North American drilling operations

The world's only hectorite producer Elementis said today that sales of its products in Q1 2014 had been affected by the cold weather in North America.

"Short term weather issues impacted our North American based coatings, oilfield and chromium businesses in January and February, as snow and unusually cold temperatures...
