China Minmetals’ president resigns after low rare earths profits

Changes at the top of one of the world’s largest rare earths producers, one year after its re-organisation, show the present difficulty experienced by Chinese rare earths producers, facing oversupply and low prices.

The president of one of the world’s largest rare earths producers, China Minmetals Corp., resigned following a disappointing set of company results for 2013.

IM sources said that the Minmetals’ president, Jian Jiao, and general manager, Jijun Gong, apologised in public for the net profits recorded by the company...
