Baker Hughes rig count shows fracking activity, oil and gas exploration, up

The latest data from the oilfield services company shows that the oil and gas industry is healthy and growing at a significant pace. This is an important end market for many industrial minerals, such as silica sand, bentonite and barite.

The latest Baker Hughes rig count, for June 2014, shows that year-on-year (y-o-y) exploration has increased in the US, Canada and in the Middle East, but has lagged in Latin America and Africa.
