June 2014 crude steel production up as China, Europe, output increases

The monthly statistics from worldsteel are arguably a litmus test for the refractories industry. If steel production is healthy this means there will be more demand for minerals such as alumina, bauxite, magnesia, graphite and zircon.
World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting
to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 137m tonnes in
June 2014, an increase of 3.1% compared to June 2013.
The global capacity utilisation ratio in June 2014 was
78.3%, which is -0.1 percentage points lower than June 2013.
