Albemarle says Q2 earnings growth owes little to bromine

Stabilising prices for bromine will not deliver meaningful growth for the chemicals company this year, so Albemarle is focusing instead on the opportunities offered by its recently announced merger with lithium producer, Rockwood Holdings.

Flame retardant and catalyst producer Albemarle Corp. Thursday posted a 10% increase in adjusted year-on-year (y-o-y) earnings for the second quarter of 2014, at $86.8m.

The Baton Rouge, US-headquartered company recorded net sales of $604.7m in the quarter, up 5% from $576.8m in the same period in 2013....
