Arkema’s earnings almost halve due to low demand for fluorochemicals

Low prices in fluorochemicals and polyamides business, together with an unfavourable currency exchange rate, wiped nearly 50% of the French chemical producer’s year-on-year earnings for H1 2014. However, a rebound in fluorochemicals and a continuous growth in fluoropolymers give the company hope to record positive figures in the near future.

French chemical producer, Arkema SA, has seen its income fall by nearly half in the first six months of this year due to persistent sluggish demand and low prices in the fluorochemicals market.
