DuPont sees rapid transition to HFO-based refrigerants in automotive industry

Following the development of several hydrofluoroolefins (HFO)-based chemicals, the world-leading fluorochemical producer said it believes the automotive market is already demanding the new refrigerants, a statement which could push other chemical producers to develop HFO-based products, giving some optimism for future fluorspar demand.

The automotive industry is experiencing a rapid transition to hydrofluoroolefins (HFO)-based refrigerants, US-based fluorochemical producer, DuPont, said this week.

The company said it believes HFO-1234yf refrigerant will be used in 3m cars worldwide by the end of 2014, a number which is expected to increase to 7m by the end...
