Rare earth prices steady on weak demand suggestive of lower inventories

Chinese magnet manufacturers reported to be idling capacity as market continues soft.

Sources in China have reported weak conditions in rare earths-consuming markets including powders for glass polishing, high strength magnets, phosphors and alloys.

Prices for the minerals have remained broadly stable this week, however, with market participants suggesting that this is due to falling inventories in buyers’ warehouses.
