Alevo to build $1bn gigawatt-scale energy storage plant in US

This is good news for the markets which feed into lithium-ion batteries in principle as it creates another demand stream. A plant of this scale, if utilities are interested, would be a major boost for developing producers of lithium and graphite. However, Alevo has only signed one agreement so far for its GridBanks technology, so the scalability remains to be seen.

Swiss power storage provider Alevo today announced that it will be constructing a 3.5m square foot  (325,160 square metres)  manufacturing plant in North Carolina, US, to build energy storage batteries for utilities in China and Turkey, as well as in the US.
