CARBO Ceramics CEO bemoans use of frac sand “experimentation” as ceramic proppant sales slide

This is the first bearish set of results from the oilfield minerals sector for Q3 2014, and it comes as a surprise given the shale gale which continues to sweep across North America. The company however has a long-term view and believes its product will win out eventually.

US proppants producer CARBO Ceramics pointed to an oversupplied ceramic proppant markets and “experiments” with raw frac sand being behind its lower Q3 revenues and earnings.

“The third quarter marked a period where a combination of events impacted the ceramic proppant market,” CEO Gary Kolstad said.
