Baker Hughes in talks with Halliburton over a "business combination transaction"

At this stage neither company is divulging what this business combination entails - there is every possibility it had nothing to do with minerals. However, if it has, it would make the combined business a global force to be reckoned with in the oilfield minerals arena.

Baker Hughes Inc. today confirmed that it has engaged in preliminary discussions with fellow oilfield services provider  Halliburton regarding a potential business combination transaction.
