Recognition of the importance of minerals to the British economy could see a mining renaissance in the UK, but experts say that the country has allowed itself to fall a long way behind its peers in terms of raw materials security.

The head of Europe's top mining association has delivered a stark warning to the UK government about what he called the country's "lack of a coherent mineral policy" for Britain's economy.
