ISIL disrupts phosphate supplies in Iraq

While ISIL’s disruption to phosphate supplies will primarily affect Iraq, the group’s interference in the industry proves that it has the potential to affect more than just oil supplies.

Extreme jihadi rebel group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), is disrupting the fertiliser industry in Iraq by directing phosphate rock to Raqqa, Syria, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights (MHR).
