CORFO presses on with SQM lawsuit

Ongoing litigation between SQM and Chilean development company CORFO over alleged underpayments by the lithium miner has led CORFO to request the return of the Atacama mining lease. While the figure in dispute is small for a company like SQM and it is unlikely to forfeit the licence, the company cannot make any decisions regarding expansions on Atacama until the issue is resolved.

Chilean state development agency Corporación de Fomento de la Producción 
(CORFO) continues to insist that lithium miner Sociedad Quimica y Minera (SQM) owes it almost $9m in fees pertaining to its lease of the Atacama mining rights.
