New York latest state to outlaw fracking

The state’s decision to definitively ban the practice is unlikely to curtail the US’s shale petroleum production potential to a significant degree, but the pro-fracking lobby is concerned that opposition movements are gaining momentum.

The US state of New York is planning to ban hydraulic fracturing (fracking) because of concerns over health risks, ending uncertainties over a moratorium over the activity which has been in place since 2008.
