Moratorium placed on fracking in Scotland

Just days after the UK government rejected calls for a moratorium on fracking, the Scottish government has decided more research and public approval needs to be sought before development can go ahead.

Scotland has issued a moratorium on approvals for unconventional oil and gas development in Scotland whilst further research and a public consultation is carried out.

"The Scottish government has taken a cautious, considered and evidence-based approach to unconventional oil and gas and fracking," said Fergus Ewing, Scottish energy minister, in a statement...
