Opta Minerals exits refractories business

The Canada-based processing company of several materials such as alumina, bentonite, chromite sand and garnet announced that it has decided to withdraw from the refractories business to focus on its other core steel businesses. The news comes as the company’s CEO acknowledged that its industrial minerals group is underperforming, as it continues to experience tough economic conditions and fierce competition.

Opta Minerals Inc.’s subsidiary Inland RC LLC has sold its operating assets and its business to refractory specialist H R Curry Company, Opta announced late last week. H R Curry has been established since 1946 and is based in Pennsylvania, US. It has similar and complementary product lines to Inland....
