Chinese government gives Baotou Rmb 1bn to upgrade rare earths industry

As the centre of rare earths production in China’s autonomous Inner Mongolia region, the Chinese government want Baotou to become the world’s biggest manufacturing centre for high value rare earths materials.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Ministry of Finance have approved a grant of Chinese renminbi (Rmb) 1bn ($161m*) to fund a trial plan for upgrading Baotou’s rare earth industry, according to a report by Baotou Daily.
