CUMI to close bubble zirconia plant and alumina factory in South Africa

The refractories company has decided to shut down two facilities in South Africa and is shifting its equipment to India, as the operations turned out to be less profitable than expected.

India-based abrasive and global refractories supplier Carborundum Universal Ltd (CUMI) has announced that it is shutting down and relocating its bubble zirconia operations and its Thukela Refractories facility, which produces alumina, from South Africa to India due to technical, labour and financial problems.
