Uralkali rumoured to be considering Uralchem merger as a private company

The reported interest in Uralkali merging with Uralchem is just a rumour – for now. Both producers may wish to emulate the strategy of the North American fertiliser majors in becoming integrated complex fertiliser suppliers to add value, though analysts appear unconvinced that a deal is really on the table.

Triggered by a report in Russia’s Vedomosti newspaper, rumours that Russian fertiliser companies Uralkali OAO and Uralchem may wish to merge and become a private company are circulating in the fertiliser industry.
