Madras high court overrules Tamil Nadu ban on beach sand mining

A new committee has been set up to probe into the illicit illegal mining of garnet, ilmenite and rutile in Tamil Nadu, as a Madras court sets aside ban imposed by the Tamil Nadu government, following a plea by petitioners.

A ban on beach mining activities imposed by the Tamil Nadu government in 2013, has been set aside by the Madras high court, pending further probe into leases granted to private parties in southern districts of the state.
