Kenya Fluorspar cuts production forecast by 19% due to weak demand

Kenya’s sole fluorspar producer has suffered the fate of many mining companies in being forced to cut its output due to a sluggish commodity market. As a consequence, Kenya Fluorspar does not expect a buoyant fourth quarter and said that prices for the mineral remain weak.

Kenya Fluorspar Co. Ltd has reduced its annual production forecast by 19% after weak demand forced it to stop output at its plant in Kimwarer, western Kenya, for six weeks.

The company confirmed media reports that it expects to produce 77,000 tonnes fluorspar in 2015, compared with a prior estimate of 95,000...
