Clariant surfactant increases fracking fluid flowback to 87%

As the oil glut continues into the second half of 2015, companies such as Clariant are working on innovative solutions so that E&P firms, which are opting to delay or cancel projects in the wake of low prices, can get more from existing drilling ventures.

Speciality chemicals producer Clariant has launched Hostafrac SF, a chemical additive for use in hydraulic fracturing (fracking), which the company says enables faster and more efficient return of fracking fluid.

The sugar-based surfactant lowers the surface and interface tension of fracking fluid to increase flowback rates and lower formation damage...
