Tesla mulls Nevada lithium source

The CEO of the leading electric vehicle manufacturer has confirmed that it is considering in-state lithium sources for its Nevada Gigafactory. The announcement follows a barrage of criticism from politicians and a suggestion that it had misled lawmakers who granted it a $1.3bn incentive package to locate in the western US state.

Tesla Motors Inc.’s CEO, Elon Musk, has said that the company is "definitely" pursuing lithium supply deals with Nevada-based lithium producers.

Musk’s announcement came via Twitter in response to press coverage and criticism by Nevada politicians of Tesla’s lithium hydroxide supply agreement with the Sonora lithium project in northern Mexico, a joint venture...
