Albemarle announces 50,000 tonne lithium conversion plant

The plant will produce either lithium hydroxide or carbonate depending on market demand, and will utilise offtake from its Talison JV. The move comes as part of plans by the chemicals giant to capture 50% of incremental growth in the energy storage market over the coming years.

NYSE-listed Albemarle Corp formally announced its intention to bring online a plant with the capacity to convert up to 50,000 tpa spodumene into battery grade lithium derivatives.
