UNITECR 2015: Appetite for low impurity steel drives demand for high-performance refractory linings

Despite a challenging steel market, new business opportunities exist for high purity alumina products used in the steelmaking process, as companies are becoming increasingly concerned with efficiency and cost savings. Additional steel technology movements and the extended processing of liquid steel are also creating new pockets of demand with the need to continually improve refractory technology.

New commercial opportunities exist for producers of high purity alumina (HPA) products due to the growth of secondary metallurgy performed in steel ladles, delegates at the 14th Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories (UNITECR) in Vienna, Austria, heard today.
