Albemarle and SQM unaffected by Chilean earthquake, as copper miners suffer closure

Both Albemarle and SQM reported that their lithium, potash and nitrates operations in the South American state have not been impacted by the recent earthquake. Copper miners with operations further south, meanwhile, have been forced into site suspensions and personnel evacuations.

An earthquake measuring 8.4 on the Richter scale that hit Chile last night has not affected the operations of either Albemarle Corp. or Sociedad de Quimica y Minera SA (SQM), both of which have operations in the northern part of the country.
