EU rare earth companies “can’t win price war against China”

European rare earth companies may have superior technologies, but they can’t compete on prices for low purity material, delegates at the Argus Rare Earths 2015 conference in Shanghai, China, were told last week.

The European Union (EU) market for rare earths is set to shrink proportionally against rising domestic Chinese demand for the technology metal group, according to Melvin Hill, a trader at Aminco Resources LLC, a raw materials trading firm.
