Clay used to stabilise contaminated Chinese soils

Bentonite and other clay minerals can be used to recover soils “poisoned” by heavy metals, according to an industry researcher.

The clay group of minerals are an effective tool in the battle against heavy metal-contaminated soils, Lijie Song, a researcher at the Shanghai Environmental Sanitation Engineering Design Institute, told delegates attending the annual meeting of the China Non-Metallic Minerals Industry Association (CNMIA) last week in Xi’an, Shaanxi province....
