Proppant suppliers develop new technologies to maintain competitive edge

Low oil and gas prices are facilitating a shift in the perception of proppants from a commodity to a technology. Major proppant producers Fairmount Santrol, US Silica and Preferred Sands have launched new proppant technologies to increase fracking well performance.

With improvements in prices of oil and gas not anticipated until at least late next year, proppants producers are attempting to safeguard shares of the shrinking market by developing more innovative solutions.
