Solvay opens former soda ash plant in Portugal to other companies

The move comes as part of a range of measures to improve the hydrogen peroxide and sodium chlorate site’s long-term competitiveness following the termination of its soda ash operations there two years ago.

Belgian speciality chemicals giant Solvay SA is actively seeking partners at its Povoa de Santa Iria site, 20km north of the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

The Povoa facility is 81 years old and currently produces hydrogen peroxide and sodium chlorate products. It used to additionally produce synthetic soda ash.
