SQM railway could take more than 18 months to repair

The Chilean producer of lithium, potash, iodine and nitrates has yet to decide whether to proceed with the reconstruction of its port rail system, following storm damage in August.

Sociedad de Quimica y Minera SA (SQM) said late yesterday that engineering studies have indicated that repair work on its railway connecting Coya Sur and the port of Tocopilla may take more than 18 months to complete.
