Local opposition halts quartz mining in Indian village

Villages in Bahmanipali Mouza in the Rengali block are preventing quartz mining from taking place as a stand-off continues between locals and mining contractor Fakir Rohidas. Quartz mining would clear the forest, which residents say is their only source of livelihood.
