IRC shuts Russian ilmenite mine as prices remain unsustainable

The company’s Kuranakh mine has been under review since 2014, and further deterioration in the ilmenite and iron ore markets have forced IRC to take production offline either until the market recovers or a buyer can be found.

Iron ore and mineral sands producer IRC Ltd has put its Kuranakh mine in the Amur Region of the Russian Far East on care and maintenance owing to depressed global markets.

The mine produced 144,005 tonnes ilmenite and 830,767 tonnes iron ore in the first nine months of 2015, however...
