Solvay closes Chiprovtsi fluorspar mine

Unfavourable market conditions and depleted reserves of high grade fluorite led the Belgian chemicals giant to shut down the Bulgarian fluorspar mine, taking over 30,000 tpa acidspar capacity off the market.

Belgian chemicals group Solvay SA has abandoned operations at its fluorspar mine in Chiprovtsi in Montana province, Bulgaria owing to the depletion of fluorite reserves and sluggish market conditions.
