Policy change for coolant chemicals unlikely to impact Chinese fluorspar industry

Policy changes requiring the phase-out of certain fluorspar-based refrigerants are not expected to significantly impact the fluorspar industry, since alternative products are likely to take up the slack. However, an overall decline in demand for these chemicals will prevent the fluorspar sector from rebounding in the near term.

Demand for coolants in China fell in 2015, leading to lower prices for the chemicals and creating weakness further up the supply chain into the fluorspar sector.
