Senior Chilean official contemplates Atacama opportunities post-SQM

In a recent interview, CORFO vice president Eduardo Bitran speculated about the tendering of lithium brines in the Salar de Atacama to other companies, should SQM lose its rights to the land upon termination of an ongoing arbitration process.

Chile’s state body in charge of economic development, Corporacion de Fomento de la Produccion (CORFO), said it has received expressions of interest from other companies seeking to take over lithium brines in the Salar de Atacama currently operated by local company Sociedad de Quimica y Minera SA (SQM).
