Fluorspar industry awaits downstream expansion

Ongoing progress pertaining to the phase down of HCFCs under the Montreal Protocol has pushed industrial focus towards the new generation of refrigerants.

Growing initiatives to phase out the production of ozone-depleting substances (ODS), mainly hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), have shifted towards a new generation of refrigerants. However, a lack of additional fluorochemical projects owing to limited end user demand indicates a sluggish outlook for fluorspar.
