Refractory-grade bauxite prices down on weak demand

Ongoing weak demand for refractory products and lower trading activities during the summer season have weighed on Chinese-origin refractory-grade bauxite prices. Cheaper, smuggled material has further pressured prices, market participants told IM.

Spot prices for Chinese refractory-grade bauxite fell in June as weak refractories’ demand continued to pressure demand for the raw material.

Trading activities for the mineral are also expected to slow down in the coming two months as many European refractory manufacturers reduce production during summer.
