Chinese WFA output hit by anti-pollution efforts

Chinese-origin white fused alumina output has been hit by stricter environmental checks in China but weak refractory demand has limited gains in the mineral’s prices. Reduced production in China could lift trades elsewhere as buyers in Europe seek alternative supply.

Stricter environmental checks in China have slashed domestic white fused alumina production but weak refractory demand capped gains in the mineral’s prices.    

Many white fused alumina plants were shut down in the past two weeks amid intensifying anti-pollution efforts in Henan province, market sources told IM.
