Lithium metal battery to offer double the power

The new development in battery technology replaces graphite anode material with a thin lithium metal foil, reportedly doubling the energy capacity against existing lithium batteries while allowing for smaller size and lower weight.

A new type of rechargeable lithium metal battery that increases up to two-fold the energy capacity against existing lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries will be commercialised by US-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) spinout, SolidEnergy Systems.
