Malaysia extends bauxite mining ban to year-end

With only one week to go before the ban on mining operations was due to expire, Malaysia has pushed the moratorium until year-end, thus halting extraction for a total of 11 months in a bid to reduce stocks.

The Malaysian government has extended the ban on bauxite mining operations until the end of the year as existing stockpiles remain high.

The latest two-month moratorium on bauxite mining was scheduled to end on 14 September, but the deadline has now been pushed back until 31 December.
