PotashCorp and Agrium merger receives first approval

Two of the largest North American fertiliser producers have board of director approvals for a merger, which will form one of the biggest crop nutrient producers in the world. Expected to complete in mid-2017, the deal still needs to secure regulatory and Competition Bureau approvals.

North American fertiliser producer Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc (PotashCorp) and Canadian producer Agrium Inc. plan to merge following unanimous approvals from the board of directors of both companies, the two producers said on 12 September.
