Mass production shutdown in China lifts fused alumina prices

The massive fused alumina production shutdown in China has lifted spot prices and the unexpected wave of output disruption has caught buyers by surprise, as many have not finalised supply contracts for Q1 2017 deliveries.

Fused alumina production has experienced mass shut-downs in China due to a draconian environmental clampdown on polluting plants since early December, which has pushed spot prices higher this week.
