Rio posts higher bauxite, alumina output in 2016

Higher output at Rio’s main bauxite mines was supported by strong demand seen in China, while speciality alumina production also increased in 2016.

Bauxite production at miner Rio Tinto increased 9% in 2016 compared with the previous year, while alumina posted a 5% increase in output, the company announced on 17 January.

Total bauxite production for FY2016 stood at 47.7m tonnes, some 9% above 2015 and higher than the 2016 guidance...
