Low fertiliser prices drive down PotashCorp earnings

Although the company noted stronger demand for potash in the fourth quarter, lower year-on-year prices for both potash and phosphate drove overall income and sales down.

North American potash and phosphate producer PotashCorp reported net income of $59m in the last quarter of 2016, down from $201m the previous year.

While sales fell from $1.35bn in Q4 2015 to $1.06bn in the quarter ended 31 December 2016, gross margins also saw a slump to $183m in Q4...
