Low prices weigh on Mosaic results

Despite lower production costs, higher volumes sold and cheaper raw materials for phosphate production, low prices in both potash and phosphate pulled net earnings down by 92% for Mosaic.

North American fertiliser producer The Mosaic Co. reported a 92% decline in Q4 2016 net earnings to $12m, down from $155m for the same period the previous year.

Net sales for the quarter also dipped to $1.9bn, down from $2.2bn in Q4 2015 as lower prices offset higher phosphate volumes....
